Turkish Victory Monument at North Beach

Captain Mehmet is presumed to have been the commander of a company belonging to Turkish 57th Regiment.  His grave can be found just opposite the Quinn’s Post Cemetery.  No further information seems to exist about Captain Mehmet, who was among the dozens of Turkish Captains who lost their lives during the fighting.  His grave is situated close to the site of Quinn’s Post, one of the positions that first comes to mind when thinking of the Gallipoli Campaign. Here the distance between the opposing trenches was sometimes as little as eight metres ...
