Between Kumkale –where we are at the moment- and Seddülbahır –which is opposite to us- there -at the entrance of the straits-lay a large battleship.
This battleship lets loose her fire every once in a while ...
- Where does he fire ??
- At Intepe my dear, at Intepe ! And you ask me :
- Where is Intepe ? And than
- What is there at Intepe ?
Wait and I’ll tell you :
- Intepe is behind us to the right, about an hour from here, between the beach and the road to Çanakkale.

the graves of the 14 martyrs at Intepe cemetery

- There we have a few guns with only a handful of gunners, the heros !! These brave men, whenever they see enemy troops moving around in Seddülbahır, will –depending on the situation- fire a shell, sometimes a few.  They fire shells brilliantly !!!
The battleship which is stationed opposite us, in response to these few shells, fire a few hundred at Intepe.

the Intepe battery memorial and cemetery

Inside the gate there is the following inscription :

Here lie 14 martyrs on the 120 mm artillery who were killed by enemy naval fire on 28th – 30th April 1915, in the First World War.

Let their souls rejoice.
