At the time of the Gallipoli Campaign, this was the principal landing port and one of the main supply points for the Turkish Forces in the field.  Soldiers and supplies coming from Istanbul were unloaded at this port, and were then directed onto the peninsula.  As such, Akbaş Limanı was often the target of indirect naval bombardment by Allied warships in the Aegean and attacks by Allied submarines that penetrated the Dardanelles. ...
