australia valley
the first authentic hotel on the Gallipoli peninsula

Monash led the
two leading platoons across Aghyl Dere into a field of stubble that became
known as Australia Valley. As the moon came up the Turks opened fire. It was
now 2.30, and this is where the big mistake of navigation seems to have
occured. The Australians didn’t know where they were. As has been mentioned,
the two leading battalions, the 13th and 14th, were supposed to break off to
the left. Monash now sent these battalions out into Australia Valley.
