On April 19 Mustafa Kemal
established his divisional headquarters in this village. The place where
the headquarters was located is today just outside the village, at the site
known as Değirmen (The Mill). Mustafa led his troops on military
excercises in and around Bigali throughout the following week, retiring each
night to a village house now known as the "Atatürk House" just off the village
square.
