dead man's ridge
the first authentic hotel on the Gallipoli peninsula
This website has been prepared by

With great gallantry the much-criticised Marines scaled and
recaptured Dead Man’s Ridge, checked the deteriorating situation in Monash
Valley, but were shot down when they reached the summit; for several days
their dead lay on the ugly bare spur "like ants shrivelled by a fire", until
a Marine climbed up at night and kicked the bodies down into the valley, where
they were buried. Thus did the ridge acquire its sinister name.
