FRENCH GUNS NEAR S-BEACH
the first authentic hotel on the Gallipoli peninsula
This website has been prepared by

“A French 15 cm gun left behind near Eski Hissarlik”, period picture reproduced from “The Battle for The Dardanelles-1915”, (Berlin 1927), Major Dr. Carl Mühlmann, p. 176

While the
plaque mounted next to the first gun describes them as being French the
necessary information to verify this statement has not been provided. The
plaque, In Turkish, French and English, reads: “French troops finally came to
this point during the course of the battle. They left these canons here and
went back”. Actualy, the French advanced some three kilometres further inland
beyond this point by the end of the campaign.
