DUGOUT NEAR HILL 141
the first authentic hotel on the Gallipoli peninsula
This website has been prepared by

"... the 3rd Field Ambulance's dugouts in Orchard Gully. The sun has parched the unshaded ground and a film of dust hangs in the air. The crude shelter on the right might at least catch a cooling breeze but the dugouts were like ovens. To add to their discomforts the occupants had to share their troglodytic existence with the Peninsula's rich variety of tarantulas, scorpions, giant centipedes and lesser creatures such as ants and beetles. The officers' dugouts are on the ridge to the right.", picture reproduced from "Images of Gallipoli", (Melbourne 1985), P.A. Pedersen, p. 80
