The landing at S Beach was the smallest of all five attempted at
Helles. It involved just three companies of the 2nd Battalion.
South Wales Borderers, together with a detachment of engineers, medical and
artillery personnel and a few marines. They were landed in the north-east
corner of
Morto Bay and
the attack , closely supported by HMS Cornwallis, was split into two sections
with two companies attacking the cliff above S Beach from inside the Bay, and
the third rowing out into the
Dardanelles
to attack this position from behind. The position was taken with relative ease
and few casualties.
